Counseling is to life as the hammer is to the nail. But, every problem in life does not require a counselor or therapist any more than every nail needs a good pounding with a hammer.

When difficult situations arise, a writing coach can help struggling authors to organize their thoughts and express their ideas. According to my independent research, emotional intelligence (EI) is positively correlated with writing competency. Writing competency includes reading comprehension and written expression. Combined, the skills associated with reading and writing can be used to express emotional intelligence. People high in trait EI make good managers or leaders, succeed in their planned endeavors, and are favored by others.

Daniel Goleman brought the concept of emotional intelligence into mainstream pop culture with his book that outlined the practical business applications; Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ. He claimed that EI is a talent that people are born with, while earlier psychological research suggested that EI is a trainable skill. John Mayer together with Peter Salovey and David Caruso developed an emotional intelligence test. They defined EI as the ability to perceive emotions, to access and generate emotions so as to assist thought, to understand emotions and emotional knowledge, and to reflectively regulate emotions in oneself and others. EI promotes emotional well being and intellectual growth. Commonly included among the other areas of intelligence or IQ, giftedness can be expressed by high Emotional Intelligence.

Although Howard Gardener identifies interpersonal and intra-personal skills separately, under his conceptualization of multiple intelligences, according to the Mayer and Salovey definition, EI encompasses both traits. In work settings, emotional intelligence is frequently demonstrated through conflict negotiation, problem resolution, and complex reasoning. Written expression is used to communicate interpersonally, through reports or letters and intra-personally, through diaries, journals, and blogs. As a writing coach, I can help you to improve your writing skills. I review and edit papers, provide detailed guidance and feedback that identifies errors or explains problems, and then, I apply strategies to help improve the document and your writing skills.

Working professionals and students are frequently faced with projects or assignment deadlines for written or visual content. Anyone who finds writing difficult can experience stress, anxiety, and writer's block. Poor written communication may be perceived as a lack of readiness for promotion or earn low academic grades. Repeated over time, either of these situations can lead to feeling discouraged or disappointed. Apart from a clinical diagnosis, writing coaching, may be better than counseling or talk therapy. As a writing coach, I partner with each client to focus on developing writing skills. We work on righting writing, one document at a time. Every client improves their self-confidence when they read and recognize the improved quality in their written expression. Naturally, the emotional quotient (EQ), similar to IQ also improves. We collaborate throughout the writing process: brainstorming, drafting, editing, revising, finalizing and releasing. I provide professionally edited creative and formal documents.
